Organize work into workspaces

Split one organization into separate environments — staging and production — without splitting the people.

View as Markdown

Every organization has at least one workspace, created for you at signup and marked Default. A second one is how you keep experiments away from the things people depend on.

Outcome

Work in progress lives somewhere it cannot disturb production, and switching between the two takes one click.

Before you start

Creating, renaming, and deleting workspaces is limited to owners and admins.

1. Create one

Go to Settings → Organization → Workspaces and choose New workspace. "Staging" and "Production" are the usual pair.

Checkpoint: the new workspace appears in the list and in the picker in the top bar.

2. Switch between them

The picker sits immediately to the right of your organization in the top bar.

Switching changes what the whole app shows: a different set of workflows, a different set of dashboards, different records in the warehouse. Your selection persists across sessions, and the default workspace is what you fall back to if you have never chosen one.

Checkpoint: after switching, the Workflows list is empty in the new workspace, because nothing has been built there yet.

3. Know what is scoped and what is shared

Scoped to one workspace Shared across the organization
Workflows and their runs Members and their roles
Dashboards and library widgets Service accounts
Data models and their records The organization's plan and limits
Connectors and API Specs

Because connectors are per-workspace, a staging workspace needs its own connector pointing at the provider's test environment — which is usually what you want, and is the reason the split is worth making.

What workspaces are not

They are not a permissions boundary. Any active member of the organization can reach every workspace in it. There is no per-workspace role.

If you need a set of people who cannot see each other's work, that is a separate organization.

Deleting one

Delete removes a workspace along with everything scoped to it — workflows, dashboards, data models, records, connectors. This cannot be undone.

The default workspace cannot be deleted at all, since it is what members fall back to.

Common problems

My workflow disappeared. You are in a different workspace. Check the picker in the top bar.

A connector I created is not offered. Connectors belong to the workspace they were created in. Create one in this workspace too.

I want to move a dashboard between workspaces. There is no move. Rebuild it in the target workspace, or keep it where it is.

Delete is missing on a workspace. It is the default one, or your role is Member.

Workspaces limit reached. Your plan caps how many you can have. Delete one you are not using, or contact support.

Next step

Organizations and trials.
